The world of office furniture solutions is forever evolving. If it weren’t, we’d all still be relegated to sitting in cubicles, which was once considered the most chic form of an efficient workspace layout interior design! The year 2015 was a very interesting one for those in the interior designing realm, because there were so many very well-defined trends that took center stage, especially in large cities including Toronto and the GTA. Here, we’ll look back on a few of those that hammered home just how innovative engineers of workplace furnishings can be.
Trend #1: “Back to the Future”
The hit film “Back to the Future” celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2015, so it seems fitting that it should be one of the trend titles in this piece. However, what we saw in office furniture solutions weren’t choices reminiscent of the 1980s when the movie was released, but of the 1950s and early 1960s.
When Inscape released its West Elm Furniture collection that included mid-century inspired work/life options, the whole landscape of what it meant to transform an office changed. Inscape’s mid-century desks, chairs and more highlight a time in North America that evokes traditionalism, streamlined beauty and vintage colours. Yet every item has a distinctively modern feel. It’s “Back to the Future” done correctly, and gives every appearance of staying strong into 2016.
Trend #2: Bringing Home to the Office
This trend occurred because it became obvious to office furniture solutions providers, as well as interior designers, that the lines were definitely blurred for employees in dozens of occupations. In order to make the office space feel less remote from home, furnishings began to have a homier feel. This achieves a three-fold outcome:
Trend #3: The Comeback of Colours
While colours have always been welcomed into Toronto workspaces, they’re starting to show up even more frequently. In 2015, there was a definite move toward hues that evoke almost environmental tones, such as aqua, burnt orange, spring green and other palettes that are found in nature. Though colourful office furniture solutions aren’t right for every workplace’s culture, colours are definitely making a bolder splash. Gone are the days when modern meant white; now, modern spans many styles of workplace furnishing appearances.
Looking Forward to 2016 – What Is on the Horizon?
As we look ahead to 2016, there’s buzz among interior designers and workspace solutions providers as to what’s coming next. Though we can’t be sure, we’re pretty confident that whatever happens, the results will be incredible for Toronto and GTA organizations in need of a facelift!
